Lorsque l’on sème une graine, il lui faut un équilibre entre la quantité de chaleur et la quantité de lumière qu’on lui apporte.
Ainsi le processus de photosynthèse pourra s’enclencher pour produire de belles plantes.
Si un semis file c’est qu’il n’a pas assez de lumière.
En principe, on sème une graine avec une quantité suffisante de chaleur (souvent sous serre chauffée ou dans la maison en hiver, avec ou pas des nappes de chauffage), lui donnant ainsi le message qu’il est temps de grandir. Mais comme souvent la luminosité est insuffisante, le plant s’étend pour trouver cette lumière au détriment de son système racinaire.
Eviter que les semis filent
Comme il est recommandé de ne recouvrir les graines que d'un millimètre de terreau sec, la tige va se développer sans avoir suffisamment de matière pour la retenir.
La meilleure façon de procéder est de semer les graines dans un poquet rempli de terreau à mi hauteur seulement.
Dès qu’elle a atteint un certain nombre de centimètres, on peut ainsi ajouter du terreau jusqu’en haut du poquet. Cela s’appelle la « remise à niveau de substrat ». Puis arrosage et luminothérapie !!
Pour apporter suffisamment de lumière, dès que la graine a germé, il est conseillé soit d’installer les poquets devant une fenêtre lumineuse, soit d’installer des lampes de croissance (photo). Cette deuxième alternative étant la plus optimale. Les lampes ne sont pas très onéreuses et garantissent de beaux plants.
Rattraper des semis qui ont filé
Vous n’aviez pas encore lu tous ces conseils et vos semis ont filé...
Pas de panique, vous pouvez les rattraper.
Il suffit de les repiquer dans un pot à moitié rempli de terreau et de remettre à niveau le substrat jusqu’aux cotylédons.
Et ensuite EXPOSER à la lumière ! Si les plants végètent un peu après ce repiquage c’est normal. C’est que les racines commencent à bien se développer. Les plants continueront à pousser lorsque tout cela sera équilibré.
Vous pouvez aussi repiquer dans un pot plus grand, sans le remplir complètement, vous pourrez ainsi remettre à niveau le substrat au fur et à mesure de la pousse. Vous pouvez même enterrer un peu les plants lorsque la terre est humide pour le renfoncer au fond du pot. Procéder très délicatement bien sûr !
